HOULTON, Maine — This year’s Houlton Agricultural Fair, which starts July 3, features a number of new attractions to entertain the masses, including a motocross freestyle show, comedy illusionist, DJ dance party and chainsaw carver.

Anyone who has ever watched the “X-Games” on ESPN should enjoy the high-flying antics of the Brigade FMX freestyle motocross show. Featuring acrobatic jumps on dirt bikes and all-terrain vehicles, the stunt riders will perform three 20-minute shows Thursday, July 3 and a two-hour-plus show Friday, July 4.

Fair President Paul Cleary said he has been trying to find a motorcycle/motocross show to bring to the fair for a number of years. The Brigade FMX show hails from Minnesota and has not performed north of Portland.

Comedy hypnotist Michael Blaine is another new performer for the fair. According to his biography, Blaine is a New York state law enforcement lieutenant who has performed throughout the U.S. at every type of venue, including fairs, festivals, fundraisers, corporate events, amusement parks, high schools and colleges.

Those who volunteer to go on stage often find themselves transformed temporarily into the likes of Elvis or a “Rockette” dancing around the stage. Blaine will perform nine shows over the four-day festival on the Little League stage.

North Anson resident Josh Landry is considered to be one the premiere chainsaw carvers in the country, combining ability with showmanship. With more than 10 years of experience turning stumps into works of art, Landry will perform seven shows over the four-day event.

For the sixth straight year, the gate fee for the fair remains $10 per person and includes all rides and entertainment events. For more information on the Houlton Agricultural Fair or a complete schedule, visit the group’s Facebook page or go online to www.houltonfair.com.
