PORTLAND, Maine — New statistics from the U.S. Department of Education show two Maine higher education institutions rank among the most expensive public schools for in-state students.
The University of Southern Maine ranks 23rd, and Maine Maritime Academy ranks 28th for 4-year public schools with the highest “net prices.” That means those schools have the highest tuition for in-state students when also considering how many of them receive financial aid.
According to the report, USM’s net price is $18,177. Maine Maritime Academy’s net price is $17,726.
The report also looks at overall tuition costs for public and private colleges and universities. The most expensive 4-year public school is the University of Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh campus at $16,590. The most expensive 4-year not-for-profit private school is Landmark College in Vermont at $49,793.
