AUGUSTA, Maine — A Texas man was injured Tuesday morning after losing control of his motorcycle on an Interstate 95 onramp, state police said.

Jesus Fuentes, 67, of Corpus Christi was attempting to enter the highway via the Exit 109 southbound ramp shortly before 9:30 a.m. when he lost control of his motorcycle and sideswiped a guardrail, State Trooper Joe Chretien said.

The trooper said the accident occurred where the southbound onramp and northbound offramp merge, and Fuentes apparently failed to negotiate the turn.

The impact sent Fuentes off his bike, while the motorcycle came to rest a couple hundred feet away on an overpass, Chretien said. Fuentes was wearing a helmet.

Fuentes suffered several broken bones and was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Chretien said Fuentes’ injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

Augusta police and fire assisted state police at the scene. The motorcycle was demolished.
