More than 1,700 briefly lose power in Fort Kent area

FORT KENT, Maine — About 1,700 Emera Maine customers in Fort Kent, Eagle Lake and New Canada were without power for 30 minutes Tuesday afternoon before crews found and repaired the problem.

Crews had been in the area already working on upgrading lines in the Wallagrass area when two of those lines came into contact with each other and triggered a safety shut-off at the substation, according to Emera Maine spokesman Bob Potts.

“Basically, it just took the time for them to drive to the station and reset the switch,” Potts said Tuesday afternoon.

Power was completely restored to all customers by 1:45 p.m.
