ZEPHYRHILLS FL – GUILFORD ME – Thomas E. Smart, MSGT, USAF Retired, 79, of Zephyrhills, FL, passed away June 11, 2014. He was born July 1, 1934 in Parkman.
After graduating in Guilford, in 1952, he joined the Air Force and served 20 years, stationed at many bases throughout the US, France, Germany, Spain, Vietnam, The Philippines, and Iran. After his service retirement he returned to Guilford for a few years and worked at “The Woolen Mill”. In 1975, his family moved and he worked for California State University at Long Beach until 1989, taking an early retirement. He then spent the following 4 years traveling with his wife, visiting family and friends across the US, finally settling in Florida to enjoy the warm weather.
Tom is survived by his children Colleen Crandall of Zephyrhills, FL and Miles (Celeste) Smart of Henderson, NV; grandchildren, Eslyn (Brendon) Casler, Sean Crandall, Corbin Smart, and Maya Smart; siblings, Sylvia Kallgren of Zephyrhills, FL and John Smart of Holden. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 54 years, Carolyn Ann (Connon); daughter, Cathy Smart; parents, Howard and Glenys (Wharff) Smart; siblings, Richard Smart, Roberta Jeffries, and Ruth Jones.
Tom always remained a true Red Sox and Celtics fan, and continued to pursue his favorite hobbies: collecting coins, model cars, and planes, along with listening to Country music and watching Westerns. He was a dedicated attendee of the Early Bird Theatre, and an active participant in the Grand Horizons community.
