MARS HILL – Clarence Franklin “Frank” Pierce, 89, passed away of natural causes on June 27, 2014 at the family home in Mars Hill. Frank was born in Blaine, Dec. 21, 1924. He was the second son of Clarence Hume and Madeline Hussey Pierce.
Frank grew up in Blaine, and attended Aroostook Central Institute as a member of the class of 1942. Following graduation and his marriage to the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Dolores Ina Kinney, Frank was a farmer, selling milk and eggs to neighbors. Frank also worked with his brother, Sylvanus and his father, Hume Pierce at the family business, Pierce’s Sales and Service, in Mars Hill where they sold Massey Harris Tractors and farm equipment as well as Ford automobiles, gasoline and auto parts. Frank was a long time member of the United Baptist church of Mars Hill, Maine where he was active with the youth outreach and missions programs.
Following his retirement, Frank could be found working during the winters at the Big Rock Ski Area owned by his brother, Wendell. Frank enjoyed helping beginner skiers master the use of the lift equipment at Big Rock. Many of his grandchildren could be found among those skiing there. Frank also worked in later years as part of the security staff at Potato Service in Presque Isle.
Frank was predeceased by his brother, Sylvanus Pierce, his daughter, Brenda Pierce Ruhlin, and his infant grandson, Robert Alexander Jr. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Ina Kinney Pierce, his brother, Wendell Pierce, his daughter, Kristi and her husband, Robert Alexander of Ellsworth, his son, Peter Pierce and his wife, Rattiya of Mars Hill, his son, Paul Pierce of Mars Hill and his daughter, Jill and her husband, Chuck Hotham of Westfield.
Frank and Dolores recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary surrounded by their children and spouses and many of their grand and great-grandchildren. Frank and Dolores have a total of 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 1 great- great grandchild.
A service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 5 at The United Baptist Church, 20 Church St., Mars Hill. Visiting hours will be held prior at the church from 12 noon to 2 p.m. with Funeral Services to follow with Pastor Mitch Ross officiating. Interment will be at the King’s Grove Cemetery in Mars Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family requests those wishing to do so may make donations in Frank’s memory to the OTAN Missions fund, The United Baptist Church of Mars Hill.
