By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

VEAZIE, Maine — Veazie’s police department has been awarded the Maine Municipal Association safety enhancement grant, the department announced Monday.

The grant is in the amount of $1,195.97, according to Sgt. Brian Nichols.

Nichols said the grant will be used to purchase several items to enhance officer safety, including an auto-inflatable life vest, new flashlights and a new fire extinguisher for patrol cars.

The sergeant added each officer also will be issued a patrol pocket pack from Officer Survival Solutions to carry on their person, which contain medical supplies needed to treat injuries such as gunshot or stab wounds.

Grants are awarded in May and October on a yearly basis.
