ELKHORN, Wisconsin — A Wisconsin judge set bail at $1 million on Friday for a security guard suspected of killing two women and hiding their corpses in two suitcases.

Steven Zelich, 52, was charged on Thursday with two felony counts of hiding a corpse in the county where the suitcases were found in a grassy ditch on June 5.

He has not yet been charged with killing the women, pending an investigation into the cause of their deaths.

But prosecutors said in a criminal complaint that Zelich had accepted responsibility for the deaths and told investigators he stashed the women’s bodies in the suitcases, which he hid in his apartment and in the trunk of his vehicle.

Authorities have identified one of the women as Laura Simonson, 37, of Farmington, Minnesota, who was last seen in November, and have tentatively identified the second woman, police said.
