HOULTON, Maine — Maggie McCluskey and Maggie Coutts each rapped a double and a single as Hampden earned an 8-4 victory over Bangor in District 3 ages 11-12 Little League softball all-star action on Wednesday.
Winning pitcher Natalie Sicard struck out 10 for the winners, who received two singles each from Camryn Bouchard and Emily Murphy. Emilee Ouellette added a double.
Emma Guernsey paced Bangor with a double and a single and Maddie Moulton posted two singles.
At Holden, Trevor Pearson fired a three-hitter, registering 11 strikeouts and one walk, to lead Holbrook to a five-inning victory.
Pearson helped his own cause at the plate, driving in four runs with a triple, a double and a single. Ben Spear provided a double, a single and two RBIs and Andrew Kiley hit a double and two singles with an RBI. Will Whitman belted a solo home run.
Bradley Hothain singled twice for Katahdin Valley and Kaleb Lane drove in a run to back losing pitcher Blake Howes.
At Millinocket on Tuesday, Katahdin Valley opened the District 3 Little League all-star baseball tourney for ages 11-12 with an 8-3 victory over Millinocket as three hurlers combined on a two-hitter at Kedderis Field.
Bradley Hotham worked the first 5 1/3 innings on the mound yielding just one hit while striking out 11. Blake Howes and Logan Swallow came on to record the final outs to preserve the victory for Katahdin Valley.
Offensively, Howes singled twice to lead the winners while Gavin Vining tripled.
For Millinocket, Caleb York doubled and Riley Gardner singled for their team’s lone hits.
Katahdin Valley (1-0) advances in the winners’ bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, Peter Kemble pitched 7 2/3 innings of five-hit ball and Ben Crichton knocked in two runs with three hits as Bangor posted a Zone 1 victory over Trenton on Tuesday night.
Kemble struck out four, walked two and allowed only one earned run before Ryan Gagne closed it out for the Comrades. Crichton hit a double and two singles.
Andrew Hillier singled three times and provided an RBI for the winners while Justin Courtney singled twice and scored four times.
Conor Maguire, Jon Phelps, Sid St. Peter, and Hank Vinal singled for Trenton.
