LEWISTON, Maine — Forty cats have been rescued from just one home in Washington County, and there may be another 40 coming from the same house.

The cats are currently at the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society. Some are getting treatment for illness and infection.

Rescue workers say the cats will be spayed and neutered and eventually put up for adoption.

The humane society needs donations of cat food, blankets, bowls, dishes, litter boxes and monetary donations to pay for veterinary bills.

Donations can be sent the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society at 55 Strawberry Ave., Lewiston, Maine, 04240 or you can call the shelter at 207-783-2311.

Some of the cats might be available for adoption as early as this weekend or early next week.
