Sheriff’s office, fire department searching for missing Phippsburg woman

PHIPPSBURG, Maine — Sheriff’s deputies and the Phippsburg Fire Department were searching early Thursday afternoon for a missing 68-year-old Phippsburg woman.

Chief Deputy Brett Strout of the Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Office said at 2:45 p.m. that emergency personnel were using all-terrain vehicles and a police dog to search the woods behind the woman’s Sagamore Road home.

The woman, whom Strout declined to identify, apparently walked out behind her house “and got turned around,” Strout said. Deputies have so far been unable to locate her using her cellphone.

“It’s one thing to look on Google Earth to see where it’s plotting and entirely different to be out there actually hollering and using siren bursts to find her,” he said. “We’re going to give it another half-hour and then step it up further and call the [Maine] Warden [Service].”
