ROCKLAND, Maine — Police in Knox County are asking for the public’s help in finding a 29-year-old Holden man wanted on 12 warrants for his arrest.

Joseph Demmons was last seen at about 6 p.m. Tuesday when deputies chased him through the woods behind Ande’s Variety off Route 1 in Warren, according to a press release issued Wednesday by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.

Demmons is wanted on 12 active warrants, all out of Penobscot County, for failure to pay fines on convictions for operating under the influence, operating after suspension, refusing to submit to arrest, violation of conditions of release and criminal threatening.

He also has two charges pending for failure to appear for thefts, according to the release.

Knox County deputies learned that Demmons had been staying out in the woods for some time in a makeshift hut, but they were unable to find him along the many trails in the area.

Demmons is approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with brown eyes and red hair.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is urged to call Knox County Communications at 593-9132.
