PEMBROKE, Maine — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested two men on Tuesday and charged them in connection with the burglary of a garage in Pembroke, according to Sheriff Donnie Smith.

Clifford Mitchell, 66, of Pleasant Point and Bradley Sapiel, 35, of Charlotte were charged with burglary and theft, Smith said Wednesday. The men were transported to the Washington County Jail but subsequently were released on bail.

The burglary was reported about 6:42 p.m. on Monday. A caretaker discovered the garage had been broken into and that a riding lawn mower and other property had been taken.

Sgt. Brandon Parker and Deputy Dennis Perry responded and, after investigating, were able to identify potential suspects. Within a couple of hours the officers recovered the stolen riding lawn mower, a battery charger and extension cord from a Pleasant Point home.

The Pleasant Point Police Department assisted.

The investigation is continuing, said Smith.
