BANGOR – Katherine L. (Dolan) Edwards, 89, died June 9, 2014 at a Bangor hospital. She was born Jan. 28, 1925 in Bangor, the daughter of Patrick J. and Velzora (Watt) Dolan.
Katherine was a graduate of Bangor High School, class of 1943, and was employed by Eastern Maine Medical Center as a medical secretary until the time of her retirement. During WWII, she worked in the Civil Service in Presque Isle. One of her assigned duties was to clean and inspect the inside of the airplane fuel tanks as she was the only one small enough to enter them. She also volunteered at the Bangor Filter Center, tracking planes and later in life, became an active member of Literacy Volunteers of Bangor. Katherine was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Parish and St. Mary’s Sodality Council.
Katherine is survived by one sister, Eleanor Ryder of Bangor; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Edwards in 1968, by her sisters, Elizabeth Sklar and Patricia Dolan and by two brothers, James and Neil Dolan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, 2014 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Ohio St., Bangor. Family and friends may visit from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Monday at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, immediately prior to the funeral mass. Private burial will be at Mt.
