James Bellanceau was handcuffed by State Trooper Elgin Physic on Thursday night following his arrest for failing to pay child support.

LEWISTON, Maine — A local man who owes more than $50,000 in child support payments to his children in Indiana was arrested by state police Thursday night.

James Bellanceau, 43, is wanted in Indiana for felony child nonsupport, according to State Police Spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Bellanceau is expected to face a judge as early as Friday or Monday to start extradition proceedings, McCausland said.

Bellanceau has lived in Lewiston since 2007. According to Indiana authorities, he never sent any money back to his four children, who live with their mother, McCausland said.

Indiana authorities tracked Bellanceau to Lewiston in recent months, and state troopers were subsequently contacted, McCausland said.

Bellanceau surrendered without incident and was brought to Androscoggin County Jail.
