BANGOR, Maine — Cody Collins of Bangor Christian and Devin Warren of Messalonskee of Oakland are among seven finalists Thursday for the 2014 Dr. John Winkin “Mr. Baseball” Award symbolic of the state’s top senior high school baseball player.

The names of the finalists were announced by Nick Caiazzo, president of the Maine High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Collins, a pitcher-infielder, has helped Bangor Christian win the last two Class D state championships, and the Patriots compiled a 15-1 record this season. Collins recently was named the Penobscot Valley Conference Classes C-D player of the year.

Warren, a pitcher-outfielder, has led Messalonskee to two straight Eastern A titles as well as the 2012 state championship. He is the 2014 Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference player of the year.

Other nominees are Scarborough pitcher-third baseman Ben Greenberg, a two-time Gatorade Maine player of the year and Southwestern Maine Activities Association player of the year; catcher Dylan Belanger of Valley of Bingham, the reigning East-West Conference player of the year; Mountain Valley Conference most valuable player Kyle Fletcher, a pitcher-outfielder at Monmouth Academy; pitcher-third baseman Anthony Haskell of Sacopee Valley of South Hiram, the Western Maine Conference C-D player of the year; and pitcher-shortstop Will D’Agostino of Falmouth, the WMC Class B player of the year.

The winner of the Mr. Baseball award will be announced just before the Maine Classes A-B Senior All-Star Game at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 27, at the Winkin Complex on the Husson University campus in Bangor.

For the first time this year two nine-inning East-West senior all-star games will be played that day, with the Classes C-D contest at 3 p.m. followed by the Classes A-B game at 6:30.

Other postseason all-star games scheduled by the MEBCA are the Maine-New Hampshire Senior All-Star Game at noon June 23 at the University of Southern Maine in Gorham and the Maine Underclass All-Star Game at 1 p.m. June 25 at Saint Joseph’s College in Standish.
