Four charged in connection with Lubec burglary

MACHIAS, Maine — A Washington County deputy arrested four men on burglary charges, and also charged one of them with domestic assault, Sheriff Donnie Smith reported Wednesday.

Sgt. Brandon Parker responded to a report of an assault and a possible burglary in Lubec on Monday.

Parker stopped a suspect vehicle and, after further investigation, charged the four men.

Jason Hawkins, 31, of East Machias was charged with domestic assault and two counts of burglary. Joshua Lanning, 38, of Bangor also was charged with two counts of burglary.

Robert Grant, 19, of East Machias and Patrick Hatch, 19, of Trescott each were charged with burglary.

Parker recovered a number of items that were reported missing in the burglary, but some property — including a pistol — is still unaccounted for, according to Smith, who said that drugs and alcohol were involved in the incident.

Hawkins and Lanning were still in custody at the Washington County Jail on Wednesday.

The investigation is continuing, said Smith.
