FREEPORT, Maine — A 59-year-old Limington man was killed Tuesday morning in a landscaping accident on Main Street.

Scott W. MacDonald was assisting the operator of a Bobcat skid steer loader, who was moving slabs of granite, when the forks of the forklift dropped on MacDonald and crushed him, said Freeport police Lt. Susan Nourse.

MacDonald died instantly.

A three-man crew from Coastal Lawncare Inc. of Cumberland was using the Bobcat to replace granite steps that lead to the lower level of the building at 140 Main St., which houses Olympia Sports, Subway and Tuscan Brick Oven Bistro.

Freeport police and the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration continue to investigate the accident.
