Anna G. (McBurnie) Walsh

CLIFTON – Anna G. (McBurnie) Walsh went home to be with the Lord, Saturday evening, June 7, 2014, at her son’s home in Clifton. Born in Presque Isle, Feb. 19, 1934, Anna was the daughter of Harris and Beatrice McBurnie.

She graduated Presque Isle High School in 1952 and married U.S. Air Force Airman John H. Walsh, who was from Brooklyn, N.Y. and Ireland. With five children, the couple moved in 1962 to Brooklyn where three more children were born. Anna was active at the Baptist Temple in Brooklyn, serving on the Board of Deaconesses. She was known for her baking, catering and hospitality. In 1992, the couple returned to Maine. At Bethany Baptist Church in Presque Isle, she served faithfully as president of the Ladies’ Missionary Guild, Sunday School superintendent, Board of Christian Education and the Prudential Committee. She was known for her elegant teas, featuring beautifully decorated tables piled with homemade delectable treats that were weeks in the making. Inspirational speakers were part of the programs, which attracted scores of area women. She made hundreds of donuts that were distributed during the annual Christmas Light Parade and held yard sales to raise money to send children to Christian summer camp.

Anna is survived by her eight children and their spouses: the Rev. John P. Walsh and Deb of Clifton, Joanne Records and the Rev. Scott Records of Bar Harbor, Gail Wylder of Presque Isle, Jayne Ragab of Staten Island, N.Y., Gina Muller and Bob of Basking Ridge. N.J., Kerry Walsh and fiancé, Gary Smith of Houlton, Kathy Walsh-Addessi of Staten Island, N.Y. and Erin Casey and Karl, of Presque Isle. Grandchildren are Jonell Walsh, Brianne (Records) Standridge, Connor Records, Bonnie (Wylder) Ashby, Amir Ragab, Brian Muller, Katlyn Muller, Kyle Muller, Sean Muriel, Katherine Muriel, Kelly (Addessi) Scotto, Amber Addessi, Trevor Casey and Victoria Casey; step-grandchildren, Hope Gabric, Jeanne Sund, Breanna Sund and Lily Sund. Great-grandchildren are Faith Walsh, Makenna Walsh, Jason Scotto, Landen Gabric and Kiera Gabric. Anna is also survived by her sister, Lynette Coffin of South Portland, her brother-in-law and wife, Stanley and Patricia Walsh of Wicklow, Ireland, her sister-in-law, Gwen McBurnie of Wade and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, John H. Walsh; her brother, Gordon “Gary” McBurnie and her parents.

A celebration of her life will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26 at Bethany Baptist Church, with the Rev. James Ackerson officiating, with interment following at Fairmount Cemetery in Presque Isle. Donations in her memory may be made to the church.
