KENNEBUNK, Maine — Police are looking for a man they say left threatening notes in the mailboxes of two families in town.

A Kennebunk mother said she stopped with her children to pick up the mail Wednesday when they discovered the note in her mailbox.

It read: “I will not stay away from your kids, Your friend, pervert.”

The mother of three children ranging in age from 7 to 16 said she was upset that her youngest two children saw the note. She asked that her name not be used.

Lt. Dan Jones said police believe the letters were hand-delivered to the mailboxes sometime Tuesday evening by a man on foot.

Jones said a home security camera at one of the residents’ homes caught the man on tape. He’s described as middle-aged, with dark, curly hair, and either unshaven or with facial hair. He was wearing white sneakers.

Jones said the homes targeted were at either end of Ross Road.

Police canvassed all of the homes on Ross Road, Jones said, and are encouraging residents to be vigilant.

“Keep an eye out for anything suspicious,” he said, “and report anything to police immediately.”

Police patrols have been increased, Jones said.

As for the mother, she said she informed all three of the schools her children attend, and said her children’s strong faith in God is a comfort during this time.

“Still, they’re nervous and upset,” she said. “This was one of the worst things that could happen as a parent.”
