NORTH HAVEN, Maine — A local 33-year-old man is free on bail after being arrested Friday night for breaking into a home and assaulting the occupant.

Morgan Mayo was arrested and charged by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office with burglary, assault, criminal mischief and operating without a license, according to Sheriff Donna Dennison.

Deputies Jeremy Joslyn and Rob Potter were on patrol when they heard yelling and items being smashed at a residence on the island shortly before 9 p.m. Friday, Dennison said.

Mayo had gone into the home uninvited, smashed belongings and assaulted the victim, the sheriff said. Mayo, who had consumed alcohol, had been looking for a female friend and assaulted a man in the residence, Dennison said.

Mayo was taken to the mainland by a Marine Patrol officer and then to the Knox County Jail in Rockland, from which he later was released on bail.
