Frances A. Conley

ATKINSON AND DOVER-FOXCROFT – Frances A. Conley, 94, died June 5, 2014, in Dover-Foxcroft. She was born Dec. 13, 1919, in Houlton, the daughter of Oscar and Annie (Mullen) White.

Frances married Elwood H. Conley on April 15, 1939, in Presque Isle and lived there with him until their move to a dairy farm in Atkinson in 1959. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and an exceptional cook, known for her chocolate donuts and homemade bread. For several years she was the town clerk and tax collector for the town of Atkinson, also serving on the school board in the 1960′s. She was a member of the Atkinson United Methodist Church and was a member of the Ladies Aid there. She taught Vacation Bible School every year and was a great supporter of children in the church. In 1994 she moved to Dover-Foxcroft and in recent years she attended the Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church, but remained a member of the Atkinson church until her death.

She is survived by her 5 children, Patricia Nickerson and her husband, Jerry, of Caribou; Bettina Knowlton of North Port, FL, Michael Conley of Atkinson, Debra Cole and her husband, Jerry, of Dover-Foxcroft, and Peter Conley and his wife, Sheri, of Milo. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Kathy Nickerson of Kentucky, Lisa Nickerson Corey of Caribou, Jeffrey Knowlton of New Hampshire, Michele Fitzpatrick of Littleton, Michael Conley II of Brownville Jct., Tara Cole Bolduc of Lisbon Falls, Thomas Cole of Dover-Foxcroft, and Dillon Conley of Alton. She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Elwood H. Conley; an infant daughter; a daughter-in-law, Linda Conley; three grandchildren, Scott Nickerson, Darcey Nickerson, and Jared Knowlton; and by a great-grandson, Logan Dewitt.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at the Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft, with Pastor Mark Stevens officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in Atkinson Corner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the Dover-Foxcroft United Methodist Church, PO Box 62, Dover-Foxcroft 04426.
