WATERVILLE, Maine — State and Waterville police have arrested a local man in connection with the death of a 92-year-old Waterville man two weeks ago inside his home.

Detectives from both agencies took Roland Cummings, 44, into custody Friday afternoon and have taken him to the county jail in Augusta, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said Friday in a news release.

Cummings is charged with murder and will make his first appearance in Kennebec County Superior Court early next week.

Detectives said Cummings knew the victim, Aurele Fecteau, and that he had done household chores for Fecteau in the past, McCausland said.

Cummings, who grew up in the Bingham and Waterville areas, was living with his mother in Waterville and was not employed at the time of his arrest.

Detectives said Fecteau was stabbed to death in his bed and that Fecteau’s house had been burglarized. His body was found on May 23.

Additional details will come out in court documents to be released next week in conjunction with Cummings’ court appearance.

The Maine State Police and Waterville police were assisted in the investigation by personnel from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency, the Skowhegan Police Department and the Maine State Police Crime Lab.
