By Beth Brogan, BDN Staff

YARMOUTH, Maine — Yarmouth Fire and Rescue has secured a federal grant worth more than $38,000 to purchase a thermal imaging camera, a gear washer and boots and helmets for firefighters.

The funding comes from the SAFER (Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response) program administered by the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Program, according to a joint release from U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King.

“Fire departments throughout Maine provide an invaluable service to our communities and help safeguard our citizens,” the senators said in the statement. “This grant will enable Yarmouth Fire-Rescue to secure the equipment required to do their important job.”
