BRUNSWICK, Maine — Brunswick police arrested Brooklyn, New York, man Thursday and charged him with possession of MDMA, the club drug also known as “Molly.”
Melvin Givens, 34, was charged with Class B possession of MDMA and the civil charge of possession of a usable amount of marijuana, Brunswick police Detective Sgt. Martin Rinaldi said Thursday.
Police allegedly seized $3,700 in cash from Givens during the arrest at a home on MacMillan Street.
Givens was on probation for felony drug possession out of New York, Rinaldi said.
Givens remained in Cumberland County Jail Thursday morning, held on $50,000 cash bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Friday afternoon.
Also arrested was Shawn Mills, 29, of Brunswick. Mills was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, including syringes and pipes, and violation of conditions of release for a previous charge of possession of heroin.
Mills remained in Cumberland County Jail Thursday morning, held without bail. He will appear in court Friday afternoon.
Portland police Officer Christian Stickney and his police dog assisted with a search of the house.
Two small children were released to relatives, and authorities were notified.
Rinaldi said police have fielded “a bunch” of complaints about suspected drug activity at the house.
“This should take care of the problem we’ve been having in that particular neighborhood,” he said.
