Single-vehicle crash in Hermon claims man’s life; police seek potential witness

By Ryan McLaughlin, BDN Staff

HERMON, Maine — A Glenburn man was killed Saturday night when his sport utility vehicle left Route 2 and struck several trees, police said.

Daniel Gray, 51, was pronounced dead at Eastern Maine Medical Center, according to Chief Deputy Troy Morton of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office.

Gray, who had a juvenile passenger in his vehicle, was heading westbound around 8:45 p.m. at the time of the crash, Morton said. The passenger was not injured.

“The SUV appeared to have been traveling toward Hermon when it crossed over the centerline then left the roadway,” Morton said.

Police continue to investigate the crash, and a cause has not been determined, Morton said.

“We are looking to identify a potential witness to the crash who was operating a dark colored pickup truck with a prominent ‘55’ attached to the back,” Morton said.

Anyone with more information about the accident or the potential witness should contact the sheriff’s office at 947-4585.
