BANGOR, Maine — Ready your showers. The Color Run, an international 5k running event is coming to Bangor in September as part of its 2014 Kaleidoscope Tour, which includes hundreds of other cities across the U.S.
The Color Run is an un-timed, 5-kilometer race in which participants are doused with a different color of paint at each kilometer mark. Participants start the race wearing only a white Color Run shirt and are turned into walking rainbows by the end. The Finish Festival at the end of the race includes a number of musical performances to enhance the party atmosphere of the event.
According to The Color Run website, this year’s events will also include new on-course kaleidoscope attractions as well as an official The Color Run Race Kit for each participant, which will include a custom t-shirt and tricolor headband.
The first event took place in January 2012 in Phoenix, Arizona and has since grown into an international festival. The aim of the tour is to bring amateur and professional runners together in a fun, non-competitive atmosphere that promotes fitness.
This announcement came on the heels of the inaugural Color Bangor 5k run, which was held in late April as a fundraiser for the 2014 American Folk Festival. The event, which was similar in format to The Color Run, raised over $35,000 and brought out nearly 1,700 participants.
The two races are not affiliated with one another.
The Color Run Bangor is scheduled for September 28. A Color Run in South Portland, which is sold out, is scheduled for June 22. More details can be found at http://thecolorrun.com/.
