PORTLAND, Maine — A former Bailey Island lobsterman was sentenced Tuesday to 30 months in prison for felony possession of child pornography.
Carl Johnson, 52, now of Old Orchard Beach, will serve five years probation following his release, according to court documents. He must also pay $5,000 restitution.
Johnson admitted at the time of his arrest in November 2012 that he downloaded child pornography, according to a sentencing memorandum by Johnson’s attorney, William T. Bly. Investigators determined he had downloaded 292 images and 54 video files of child pornography, of which 74 were of known children.
Under the terms of a plea agreement, Johnson pleaded guilty on Sept. 5, 2013.
According to a memo written by Bly, following his arrest, Johnson began attending Alcoholics Anonymous and Sex Addicts Anonymous meetings, and has been sober for 18 months. Bly wrote that Johnson has made “Herculean efforts at rehabilitation.”
