RUMFORD, Maine — A local man wanted on robbery and kidnapping charges was arrested early Wednesday morning, according to police.
Randall Chapman, 37, had a warrant for his arrest for his involvement in a robbery on May 19, according to Rumford Police Chief Stacy Carter.
Carter said Rumford police had learned where Chapman had been staying in Gray, and when state police attempted to arrest him, he fled, but was quickly taken into custody. Carter said his agency and state police had been working together on the case.
Chapman was subsequently brought to the Oxford County Jail, according to Carter.
Also wanted in the case is Chapman’s 26-year-old girlfriend on a charge of robbery in connection with the same case, Carter said.
Chapman had apparently assaulted and robbed a man in Rumford on May 19 before Chapman ordered the victim into his truck at knifepoint and ordered him to drive to an ATM.
Chapman slashed the victim with the weapon before fleeing after the vehicle had stopped at a Mexico store.
