FRANKFORT, Maine — A man was arrested Saturday evening after a fight with his wife allegedly turned violent, with the couple’s 12-month-old baby reportedly caught in the middle of the scuffle.

Jeffrey Redmond, 38, of Frankfort, and the woman were arguing over their children when the interaction took a turn for the worse, according to Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. The woman called police to tell them Redmond was trying to keep her from leaving the premises with the children. She said he was screaming at her while trying to grab the baby from her arms, and he blocked the door so she couldn’t go, Trafton said.

When police responded to the Marsh Stream Road home, they found the woman had scratches on her arms and the baby girl had a bruise on her sternum, according to the chief deputy.

“The child was right in the middle of it,” Trafton said.

Police charged Redmond with domestic violence assault. He was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast to be booked but was released Sunday after posting $250 cash bail, a jail official said.
