Maine golfers record a hole-in-one on back-to-back days in weekly MSGA tourney

SANFORD, Maine — Two different golfers recorded a hole-in-one on back-to-back days in the Maine State Golf Association’s tournament over the weekend at Sanford Country Club.

Charlie Tarte of Falmouth achieved the rare feat when he aced the 185-yard 16th hole at Sanford CC. He used a 6-iron for the shot, which was witnessed by Dave Luce, Gary Manoogian and Jamie Donaldson.

On Saturday, Matt Ouellette of Auburn used a wedge to ace the 115-yard 13th hole at Sanford CC. That shot was witnessed by Gordon Ross, Topper West and Beg Hoisington.

The MSGA holds weekly two-day tourneys at courses throughout Maine during golf season.

According to Golf Digest, the odds of an average golfer recording a hole-in-one are 12,000 to 1. For a low-handicap player, the odds are 5,000 to 1, and the odds decrease to 3,000 to 1 for a Tour pro.
