Man sentenced to 6½ years on child porn charge

PORTLAND, Maine — A federal judge sentenced a Hartford man to 6½ years imprisonment on Friday after federal agents found over 100 images and more than 400 videos of child pornography on his computer, officials said.

Stephen Scott Pennington, 41, of Hartford pleaded guilty in November to possession of child pornography. U.S. District Court Judge George Singal sentenced him on Friday, officials said.

Pennington will also serve five years of supervised release, officials said.

Pennington used peer-to-peer software to access, and make available for sharing, images and videos of child pornography. Federal agents from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations directorate discovered some of the child pornography online, traced it to Pennington’s computer, and seized and examined the computer, officials said.

In sentencing Pennington, Singal described child pornography crimes as among the worst types because they victimize defenseless children. Singal chastised Pennington for showing no remorse for the crime.
