FRANKLIN – Grace E. Day, 79, went to be with Jesus by His great mercies on May 19th, 2014. She and her husband, John were longtime residents of Franklin. She lived with her daughter, Ruthanne and son-in-law, Paul Sprague at the time of her death in North Berwick. She died of complications from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy(PSP). Grace was born in Boston, MA, the daughter of H. Richard and Grace.
She was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. She and John were faithful parishioners of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Ellsworth, Maine and served as Out-Reach Ecumenical Ministers, serving the local nursing homes and shut-ins. She loved to read, recite poetry, play scrabble, travel abroad and work in her flower garden. Grace will be remembered as a loving dedicated wife and wonderful mother to her six children.
Grace was predeceased by her devoted husband of 49 years, John Day, her loving parents, eldest sister, Phyllis, her three brothers-in-law, James Boyd, Robert Pugatch, and James Brunet, and her nephew, Gary Pugatch. Surviving are her children, John (Patricia), Brenda, Ronald (Barbara), Donald (Tammy), Ruthanne (Paul), Michael, and her 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Devoted sisters, which she loved dearly, Jeanne, Elaine and Marilyn and brother-in-law Edward (Betty), nieces, nephews, cousins and dearest friends among them Dana and Christine Young, supporting neighbors and fellow parishioners.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 22nd at St. Thérèse of Lisieux Parish, Notre Dame Church located on Payne Street in Springvale. The burial service will be private. In lieu of sending flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider making a donation to your local food bank.
