Northport man arrested in connection with Connecticut homicide

By Abigail Curtis, BDN Staff

BELFAST, Maine — Police arrested a Northport man Friday night on a fugitive from justice charge that is connected to a Connecticut homicide.

Michael Ames, 28, was spotted by officers who had gone to a Back Belmont Road home to do a bail check on a different person, according to Chief Mike McFadden of the Belfast Police Department. The officers knew that authorities in Connecticut had a warrant out for his arrest and were willing to extradite him to that state, the chief said, and so they brought him to Waldo County Jail in Belfast.

“I don’t know how he’s connected to the homicide,” McFadden said Tuesday. “He may have very little to do with it. He may have quite a lot to do with it. We just don’t know.”

Further information about the homicide investigation was not immediately available on Tuesday.
