HAMPDEN, Maine — An Old Town teenager suffered injuries that aren’t believed to be life-threatening in an accident on Interstate 95 in Hampden late Monday morning, according to Maine State Police Trooper Andrew Peirson.

Peirson said the 17-year-old driver was heading north on the interstate in her Mitsubishi Eclipse when she apparently lost control of her vehicle and spun out, careening backward into the trees in the median. The crash occurred about a mile south of the Coldbrook Road exit. No other vehicles were involved.

“I believe speed and the [wet] weather were factors,” Peirson said, though the cause is still under investigation.

The teen was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle was demolished.
