Waldo County tech center teacher indicted on sexual assault charge against student

BELFAST, Maine — An automotive technology instructor at Waldo County Technical Center was indicted this week by the Waldo County grand jury on charges that he sexually assaulted a student.

Michael Gagnon, 46, of Winslow was charged with Class C gross sexual assault against one of his female students, who was under the age of 18. He was arrested in April, after police investigated a rumor that a staff member at the technical center was involved in a sexual relationship with a student from Regional School District 20.

Chief Deputy Jeff Trafton of the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office said that Gagnon admitted to being involved in a physical relationship with the student.

Gagnon was placed on administrative leave at the technical center, and also placed on leave from his softball-coaching job at Mount View High School in Thorndike, which he has held for 12 years.

Also indicted this quarter by the grand jury this week:

Kevin Clyde Jewell, 26, Searsport, theft by unauthorized taking, violation of condition of release.

Candy Sue Duprey, 26, Unity, two counts of unlawful trafficking of hydrocodone.

Arthur R. Gardiner, 62, Swanville, aggravated trafficking in hydrocodone, unlawful possession of hydrocodone, violation of condition of release and criminal forfeiture.

Sharon L. Menard, 65, Belfast, Class B theft by unauthorized taking.

James Ike Olofson, 34, Searsmont, theft by unauthorized taking.

David James Morin, 32, Northport, domestic violence stalking, domestic violence reckless conduct, domestic violence assault, driving to endanger, leaving the scene, assault, refusing to submit to arrest and assault on an officer.

Steven A. Hodgdon, 48, Troy, aggravated assault, two counts criminal threatening, falsifying physical evidence.

Neil K. Nightingale, 59, Prospect, criminal threatening, domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing, criminal mischief, criminal mischief.

Bethany A. Wickham, 37, Belfast, assault on an officer, obstructing government administration, disorderly conduct, refusing to submit to arrest.

Brian Wayne Knight, 40, Freedom, tampering with a victim, domestic violence terrorizing, marijuana cultivation, violation of conditions of release.

Benjamin Lawrence Roy, 47, Searsport, burglary, theft by unauthorized taking.

Zebedee Hector Thompson, 65, Belfast, four counts Class A gross sexual assault against a child under 12, four counts unlawful sexual contact.

Earl W. Leathers, 28, Liberty, two counts sexual abuse of a minor.

Paul B. Trask, 32, Winterport, aggravated assault, domestic violence assault, domestic violence terrorizing, obstructing report of crime or injury.

Steven A. Haver, 46, Bangor, domestic violence stalking, violation of a protective order.
