Old Town street closes after vehicle strikes pole, brings down wires

OLD TOWN, Maine — Emergency crews have shut down Poplar Street in Old Town after a vehicle struck a utility pole, bringing down wires, Penobscot County dispatcher confirmed Saturday afternoon.

The crash occurred shortly after 3 p.m. As of 4 p.m., access to Poplar Street from Kirkland Road was cut off. Utility crews have been called to repair the damage. According to Emera Maine, about 300 customers in the area are without power.

No other information was immediately available.
