Police: Portland grocery store owner robbed by two men at gunpoint

PORTLAND, Maine — A grocery store owner was robbed by two men as he was closing up for the night on Wednesday, police said.

The victim was closing the Ahram Halal Grocery store on Forest Avenue around 11 p.m., when two men approached him, pointed handguns at him and demanded his wallet, according to Portland police Lt. James Sweatt.

The owner was walking out to the dumpster in a rear parking lot when the men approached, Sweatt said.

The lieutenant added that the two men fled with undisclosed items belonging to the victim, who was not injured.

One man was wearing a dark mask over his face and a brown jacket with the hood up, while the other man is 5 feet 8 inches tall with an average build.
