Ruth G. Young

PRESQUE ISLE – Ruth G. Young, 86, passed away May 12, 2014, at Mars Hill Skilled Rehab, following a long illness. She was born March 31, 1928 in Caribou, the daughter of Alvin and Phoebe (Devoe) Hodsdon.
Ruth married Richard Young in 1954 and until his death in 2009, they enjoyed 54 years together. Ruth was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Bobbie Lee Nichols; husband, Richard; four-month-old infant son, Todd Tyler; her brother, Edward; three sisters, Dorothy, Helen and Almyra. She is survived by her children, Brenda Derr and her husband, Kevin of Washburn, Richard F. Young Jr. and his wife, Molly of Mars Hill, Kimberly Smith and her husband, Steven of Cross Lake; 10 grandchildren, Angela Lewin and her partner, Ken Wells, Todd Young, Jay Serrano and his partner, Keith Nadeau, Mandy Bradbury, Jonathan Fields and his wife, Tina, Thomas Smith, Richard F. Young III and his wife, Starla, Michael Smith and his wife, Jessica, Robert Young and his partner, Billi-Jo and Peter Smith and his partner, Melanie; 11 great-grandchildren, Cody and Abigail Stewart, Alexis Jean Bradbury, Cassie Anne Wells, Alexis Young, Jedidiah and Jeremiah Fields, Sydney, Jesse, Quincy and Lucas Richard Smith. Also survived by her sister, Pauline Dyer and husband, Elwood; sister-in-law, Barbara Lihudis and her husband, Gary of Fort Collins, Colo.; a sister-in-law, Ruth Costello of Florida and many nieces and nephews.
Ruth enjoyed family gatherings, playing bingo with the girls at Northland Apartments and church fellowship. Ruth had a lifelong love of music, playing the piano with her husband and (gospel sisters). We wish to thank all of Ruth’s special friends at TAMC and Mars Hill Rehab who cared for her with love and compassion during her difficult times.
A funeral service will be held at Easton Wesleyan Church, 11 a.m. Thursday, May 22. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the church. After the reception, interment will be held at the Maine Veterans Cemetery at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Easton Wesleyan Church, Easton, ME 04740, in memory of Ruth G. Young.
