Inmate dies at Downeast Correctional Facility in Machiasport

AUGUSTA, Maine — The Department of Corrections announced late Friday that an inmate at the Downeast Correctional Facility in Machiasport had died around 3:15 p.m.

Maine State Police and the medical examiner are reviewing the death, spokesman Scott K. Fish said in a news release.

The inmate, Phillip Kay, 32, had served approximately four years and seven months of a 12-year split sentence for elevated aggravated assault.
