HAMPDEN, Maine — Danny and Carla Lafayette and Lafayette Hotels have been named this year’s co-recipients of the Hampden Business Association’s Harold O. Bouchard Business Person of the Year award.

The couple will be recognized at the association’s annual awards dinner on Tuesday, May 20, at Morgan Hill Event Center in Hermon, according to an invitation sent to Hampden town councilors.

The Hampden couple established their family-owned hotel group in 1982. The group comprises 26 Maine hotels and resorts, another three in New Hampshire and a large hotel in Michigan. Combined, the properties employ more than 1,000 people, according to the group’s website.

Locally, the Lafayettes are widely known for their generosity to medical, education and youth causes, including a $2 million pledge to the Lafayette Family Cancer Center in Brewer.

The association’s awards dinner is held each year to honor business people who have made significant contributions to Hampden’s quality of life. The Lafayettes are being honored for their history of “giving from the heart,” the event announcement states.
