Madeleine Gaynor Leach

CASTINE – Madeleine Gaynor Leach, the daughter of Oskar and Redette Pedersen, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 6th, 2014. Following a courageous battle with cancer, she passed away peacefully, at home in beautiful Castine, surrounded by family who love her.
She was a woman of tremendous courage and grace, and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Gay had a rich and full resume, including successful grantwriting, fundraising and public relations for many area organizations. She managed profitable family businesses for nearly twenty years and ran for state legislature twice before she began her battle with cancer. Gay had strong academic credentials, including two masters degrees and a graduate certificate, and was a gifted Instructor and valued member of the Beal College community. She touched the lives of all her students, many of whom verbalized that her positive attitude, giving nature, and kind demeanor inspired and lifted them beyond themselves to see a hope and future as they pursued their academic, professional, and personal goals.
Gay found comfort and joy at the Bucksport Church of God. Her church family offered constant hope, prayer, and love. The Leach family is ever grateful for their unconditional love, and faith in Jesus Christ and His Word. Her credentials and accomplishments could take up volumes; but her greatest accomplishment and joy was her family. In concert with her dear husband Tim, she raised her beloved boys Bret and Chris to be men of honor and integrity.
In addition to her husband and sons, Gay Leach is survived by her cherished mother, Redette Pedersen; one brother, Matthew Pedersen and his wife, Theresa; five sisters, Gyda DePeppe and her husband, Harry, Katrin Teel and her husband, Sam, Allyson Darlington, Christine Kelsey and her husband, Michael, and Amy Wardwell and her husband, Michael; her beloved mother and father in-law, Norris and Gladys Leach; brother-in-law, Stanley Leach; sister-in-law, Wendy Leach; and several nieces and nephews including Joshua Leach, Kaylee Leach, Anna Jane Macomber and her husband, Matthew, Andrew Finley and his wife, Ariana, Christopher Sharik and his wife, Beth, Rachael Teel, Joshua Teel and his wife, Lynsey, James Darlington, Emma Pedersen, John Pedersen, Brian Kelsey, Shannon Kelsey, Heather Kelsey, Anna Wardwell and Melanie Wardwell.
Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday, May 9th, at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport. A celebration of Gay’s life will be held at the `Trinitarian Congregational Parish Church on Main Street in Castine, 2 p.m. Saturday, May 10th.
One of her favorite scriptures was “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21). Gay Leach was a woman of faith, hope and love. Her kind heart, calm spirit, and wise words welcomed all who knew her. She is loved and missed.
