Young Artists to perform at University of Maine

ORONO — Stillwater Community Arts will present the Young Artist Showcase, the culmination of an audition process where high school visual, performing, literary and multi-media artists performed and -or displayed their work for a jury of experts in the field. From this audition Stillwater Community Arts chose seven young artists from the Orono-Old Town area to be featured in the Young Artist Showcase at 7 p.m Sunday, May 11, at Minsky Recital Hall, University of Maine.

Young Artist winners are:

• Paige Bacon, Hermon High School, voice.

• Lydia Bolin, Orono High School, voice.

• Maire Gardner, Hermon High School, visual art.

• Tori Grindel, Old Town High School, visual art.

• Connor Magliozzi, Hermon High School, performance.

• Brooke Nason, Hermon High School, composition.

• Daniel Perkins, Hermon High School, voice.

• Hanna Renedo, Orono High School, violin.

• Saskia Van Walsum, Orono High School, visual art.

• Katie Woodilla, Orono High School, voice.

Each Young Artist will perform or display two pieces of work and talk about what has inspired his or her art.

The Young Artist Showcase will conclude with each Young Artist receiving a scholarship toward his or her arts education from the following sponsors Old Town Elementary School, Noonan Chiropractic, The Rock Team and Veazie Veterinary Clinic.

The Young Artist Showcase is free and open to the public. The Young Artist Showcase is co-sponsored by the UMaine School of Performing Arts.
