Bangor Raceway open for season

BANGOR — The 131st season of racing at historic Bangor Raceway got underway Monday, April 28, at Hollywood Casino, Hotel and Raceway.

May began with a Kentucky Derby race card on May 3, followed by the Kentucky Derby presented in Hollywood Casino’s Win, Place and Show Lounge.  Also in May will be an Escalade Series each week, culminating in a $10,000 purse on May 30.

“Last year was a great year for racing and this year will be even better,” said Michael Hopkins, director of raceway operations at Hollywood Casino Bangor. “This season features 54 race dates at Bangor Raceway including the Maine Standardbred Breeders Stakes.  So far this spring the track has been busy with teams training and the weather is shaping up for a beautiful 131st season.”

Racing takes place every Monday, Tuesday and Friday through July 20, with Saturday race cards on May 17, June 7 and July 19.  Friday, July 4 will feature a special Independence Day race card.

The 2014 racing season again will feature a post time at 5 p.m. Mondays and Tuesdays, with the exception 6 p.m. Monday, June 30. Friday post time is 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Simulcast wagering will be available at the track on days with live racing at the Win, Play and Show Lounge under the grandstand. All races at Hollywood Casino, Hotel and Raceway will be simulcast throughout the country with updated video graphics. The permanent simulcast wagering Race Book remains at Hollywood Casino’s main facility at 500 Main St. in Bangor. On days with live racing at Bangor Raceway, racing fans will have the option of simulcast wagering either at Hollywood Casino or at the track.
