Husson, Saint Joseph’s softball teams heading to NCAA Regionals

The Husson University Eagles will travel to Union, New Jersey, and the Saint Joseph’s College Monks will visit Wellesley, Massachusetts, for NCAA Division III Regional Tourney openers Friday.

North Atlantic Conference champion Husson of Bangor (30-10) will take on regional host Kean University (32-11) after winning its sixth straight league title on Sunday.

The regional tourney will run Friday through Sunday while Friday’s other game features Keene State (19-17) vs. Lebanon Valley (32-4).

At Wellesley, Great Northeast Athletic Conference champ St. Joe’s (33-4) will battle Western Connecticut State University (31-10) and tourney host Wellesley (27-9) will take on Bridgewater State (29-12).

The Monks, currently ranked fourth in the Northeast Region, will be making the program’s fourth consecutive NCAA Tourney appearance.

The NCAA Div. III Softball Committee announced the 62-team field Monday along with a new format that includes a super regional round of competition.

In the three-day regional round, four teams will compete at 14 regional sites and three teams will compete at two regional sites.

The winner of each regional will advance to a super regional round May 16-17, with those eight winners advancing to the finals on May 22-27, hosted by Texas-Tyler.

All rounds will use a double-elimination format.
