BREWER, Maine — An Eastern Avenue residence was leveled by fire here Monday morning, according to officials.
Brewer fire Capt. Robbie Wildes said a report of the blaze was called in shortly after 11 a.m., and firefighters arrived to flames shooting out a rear window and smoke pouring out of front windows at a 400 Eastern Ave. residence.
An occupant managed to get out of the house uninjured, according to Wildes.
The blaze forced Brewer police and firefighters to block off Eastern Avenue from Pierce Road to Day Road, Wildes said. The end of Pierce Road near the Eastern Avenue intersection also was closed to traffic.
Wildes said the fire likely started in a rear bedroom. The interior of the home was destroyed, the captain said.
Brewer firefighters managed to get the blaze under control in about a half hour, while Bangor crews assisted with overhaul work, Wildes said. Crews remained on scene for about two hours, Wildes added.
The fire does not appear to be suspicious but the state fire marshal’s office is conducting an investigation.
