BRIDGEWATER, Maine — A Presque Isle man was injured Sunday morning after falling asleep and crashing his car while driving on Route 1, according to a release from Maine State Police Sgt. Brian Harris.

Chad King, 40, was driving his 2004 Chevrolet Impala south on Route 1 at around 5 a.m. and fell asleep, crossing the center line and traveling into the opposite ditch, Harris said. King’s vehicle struck a large rock and flipped over onto its side, receiving significant damage. King was taken by Crown Ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Trooper Dennis Quint is leading the investigation into the accident.
