BASS HARBOR – Doris C. Reed, 98, died April 30, 2014 in Bass Harbor. She was born Dec. 10, 1915 in Stillwater, the daughter of Asa and Frances(Blaney) Cunningham.
She graduated from Old Town High School in 1934 and Gorham Normal School in 1937. She received her B.S. degree from the University of Southern Maine in 1952 where she met her husband, W. Stanley Reed. She taught school at East Hebron, Porter Village, Sebago, West Old Town, Stillwater Village and Tremont. She taught a total of 39 years before retiring. Doris was a member of the Hancock County Retired Teachers Association and the Cornerstone Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School, directed the children’s choir and sometimes filled in playing the piano. She loved to share her faith with anyone who seemed interested. She also played the piano for the Olsen Memorial Church for many years.
Doris is survived by two sons, Bradley Reed and wife, Dorothy of Bass Harbor and Dana Reed and wife, Katherine of Windham; grandchildren, Tina Reed, Bradley W. Reed and wife, Alyson, Asa and Gardner Reed; great-grandchildren, Abigail, Aaron, Andrew, Rachel, Rebekah, Laura, Joshua, Emily and Zachary. She was predeceased by her husband, W. Stanley Reed and a brother, Merle E. Cunningham, great-grandchildren, Robert Bradley and Toby Michael Jewett.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
