Bailey home run lifts Brewer past Mt. Ararat

BREWER — Maddy Bailey’s two-run home run in the fifth inning provided the winning margin for Brewer in a 4-3 high school softball victory over Mt. Ararat of Topsham on Tuesday.

Brewer jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Meg Davis reached on a bunt single and scored on a throwing error. Mt. Ararat tied the game in the third on an RBI single by Devon Hutchins.

Brewer made it 2-1 in the third when Bailey scored on an error. The Eagles scored two runs in the fifth.

Bangor 8, Mt. Blue 1

At Bangor, Emily Reilly scattered four hits, struck out eight and walked one in the Rams’ win over the Cougars.

Alexis Stanhope singled twice and drove in two runs, including one in 1-1 Bangor’s six-run third inning. Sydni Cosgrove and Kyle Cunningham each provided two singles and an RBI.

Destiny Nelson hit an RBI single for 1-2 Mt. Blue of Farmington’s only run.

At Old Town, Rachel Martin led the Coyotes with 2 singles, a double, a triple and 3 RBIs. She also earned the win in the circle with 10 strikeouts.

Karah Hussey singled three times for Old Town and Lauren Martin belted a 2-run home run.

Gabi Johnson, Grace Bickford and Kelsey Savage provided two hits apiece for Foxcroft Academy of Dover-Foxcroft.

At Ellsworth, Hermon’s Karli Theberge struck out eight and scattered four hits to blank the Eagles. She also hit two singles and a two-run homer.

Alessa Oakes hit a single, a triple and a two-run home run and scored three runs to pace the offense.

For Ellsworth, Carli Carter had a single and stolen base.

At Lincoln, Courtney McIntyre threw five innings of one-hit, shutout ball and aided her own cause with a two-run triple and a single as Mattanawcook Academy upended Schenck of East Millinocket.

Courtney Shaw had two singles and Emma Page had a two-run single. Lauren Page had a single and an RBI for the winners.

Ashley Leavitt singled for Schenck’s only hit.

At Machias, Olivia Smith pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and one walk and helped her cause with double and a single as the Blue Devils beat the Bulldogs.

Paige Gillespie whacked 2 doubles and single for Calais and Maddy McVicar doubled and singled. Kaylee Johnson posted three singles and Kate Cundiff doubled twice for the winners.

Angel Lyons hit a triple for Machias to support losing pitcher Makayla Prout, who struck out five and walked two.

Ryan Pratt and Cam Abbott singled for the 1-2 Cougars.

At Ellsworth, Nick Guerette and Tyler Beaton combined on a five-hitter as the Eagles prevailed.

Beaton singled twice with two RBIs and scored twice and Guerette provided a double, a single and three runs scored for Hermon. Quentin Wood hit two singles.

Cooper Henderson paced Ellsworth with two singles, while Brandon Braley and Hunter Cote doubled.

Holden Kimball ran down a two-out fly ball in right field to end a bases-loaded Schenck rally in the 5th inning. Trysten Pelkey and Riley Coburn led the way offensively for the Lynx with a pair of hits and three stolen bases each.

Justin Thompson and Ryan Jurgiewich combined for 13 strikeouts for Schenck.
