Two teens arrested, others charged in connection with Westbrook party

WESTBROOK, Maine — Two teenage boys were arrested and multiple other teens were summoned in connection with an underage drinking party on Tuesday night, according to police.

Arrested were Ryan Gilligan and Owen Gillis, both 18, Westbrook Police Chief Michael Pardue said.

Officers were dispatched to a Sargent Street residence shortly before midnight after receiving a complaint of a loud, large party, Pardue said.

Westbrook school officials are investigating the matter along with police, Superintendent Marc Gousse said Friday morning.

Gousse said it’s believed that student-athletes were among those involved in the incident, which violates the school’s code of conduct.

“It’s unfortunate that a limited number of individuals chose to make some poor choices,” Gousse said. “I would challenge parents to be more involved in their kids’ lives.”

Gousee hopes the incident will also serve as a warning for the future.

“I think it’s very important for the public to know there will be full accountability per the code of conduct,” the superintendent said.

Gousse said incidents such as the one that occurred on Tuesday night are always investigated by school officials whether or not police are involved.

When officers arrived on scene, they observed six people running from the residence, Pardue said.

Officers met with Gilligan, who said he lived at the home in question, the police chief said, and that he was in control of the residence.

During their investigation, police encountered 12 additional underage drinkers at the home, Pardue said.

Gilligan and Gillis both were charged with refusing to submit to arrest and Gilligan also was charged with furnishing a place for minors to consume liquor.

The following individuals were summoned on underage consumption charges: Colin Joyce, 18; Briana Ibarguen, 19; Brett Goodnow, 18; Tristian Savage, 18; Cale Bollig, 19; Shawn McKeough, 19, along with three juveniles.
